One of the tricks my mom likes me to perform is “shake” where I sit and give my mom my paw. I always give her my right paw, so I guess that makes me a righty. And I’m not alone. A study (my mom said that’s like an obedience test of sorts where they ask humans or animals to perform different tasks) was conducted at the Queen’s University, Belfast (or in dog speak: a place that would take awhile to swim to) to see if cats preferred one of their paws. 42 cats were given three tasks:
1. Tuna was placed in a narrow mouthed jar for the cat to reach for.
2. A mouse toy on a piece of string was hung above the kitty’s head.
3. The same mouse toy was pulled in front of the cat.
The results are that female cats tend to be right pawed while male cats use their left paw.
Happy tail wags!
